In case you are like me and do not speak French, the title is, “Let the good times roll.” Although I was not in the Big Easy this past weekend, I still love to acknowledge the Mardi Gras season. After living in Louisiana for five years it’s strange to let it go by without at least ordering a King Cake. (In my opinion, Broadstreet Bakery in Jackson has the best in town!)
When it comes to Mardi Gras fashion it seems the majority of people have the mindset of “Anything Goes!” but I say, be cute, be colorful (purple, green, and gold!), and be comfortable. It’s a long day of parade watching, bead catching, and crowd searching.
A little History: While many people view this holiday as an excuse to go buck wild, it is actually a part of the season of Easter, which is a Christian holiday. Mardi Gras literally means, “Fat Tuesday,” which was yesterday, a day to prepare for Ash Wednesday, today. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the first day of forty to abstain from food or anything that would cause you to be distracted from being obedient to God. If you practice this belief I would love to hear what you are giving up!
If you are ready to clean out some Mardi Gras beads along with other items in your closet and would like help please contact me for that as well! In the meantime, laissez les bons temps rouler!!
